~ Another Award ~

I just received another award, compliments of Miss Eliza @ Strange and Random Happenstance. Thank you so much! I'm honored to receive this award. I'm still very new to blogging, even though I "created" my blog in May 2009, I didn't really start seriously blogging until this month. I'm hoping to start posting Book Reviews sometime this week ~ I will mostly be reviewing Romance...Christian Fiction, Contemporary, Historical...to name a few.

The Award:
Let’s Be Friends Award:

What it means:
Blogs that receive the Let’s Be Friends Award are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers.

Rules: Deliver this award to 8 bloggers.

My nominations go to my most faithful followers (not quite eight):

Renee @ Steeler Girl's Blog

Christy @ Southern Sassy Things

Angie @ Never a Dull Moment (Angie...love the new "decor"!)

Ruth @ This That and the Other Thing

Thank you ladies for being such great friends, and followers! You're the best!

Show Me Five Saturday meme

I just discovered another fun meme at Pudgy Penguin Perusals ~ the meme was created by That's a Novel Idea:

Here's how it works:

Each Saturday you'll post the answers to these questions. The number indicates the number of answers you should provide.

1. Book you read and/or reviewed this week

2. Words that describe the book

3. Settings where it took place or characters you met

4. Things you liked and/or disliked about it

5. Stars or less for your rating?

This meme gives us an opportunity to share a brief description of a book we've read/reviewed this week. Doesn't that sound like fun? I'm hoping to start posting reviews on my blog real soon...maybe this will help me build up enough courage to try the "real" thing! :)

Here's mine for this week:

1. Book read - Montana Rose by Mary Connealy

2. Words describing it - witty, heartwarming

3. Places and/or Characters - Cassie (reluctantly obedient), Red (a wonderful, caring, hovering husband), and Belle (she's one tough chick!)

4. Things I liked and/or disliked - I liked that the characters are very well-written ~ it's like you're right there with them; I liked that there is never a dull moment ~ I read the book in a couple of hours!; I disliked Belle's husband (and I use this word loosely!), Anthony ~ what a loser!; I disliked Mort (Wade's Dad), too ~ what a sorry, low-down excuse for a man!

5. Stars or less - Absolutely 5 STARS!! I loved this book!

Be sure to visit the blog's mentioned above to read what others thought about the books they read this week. Have fun!

50/50 Competition

Miss Eliza @ Strange and Random Happenstance is celebrating her 50th post PLUS reaching her 50th Follower! Congratulations Miss Eliza! :)

Here's what she had to say about her competition:

So this here post, the one you are reading right now, at least I hope you are reading it, is officially my 50th post. To commemorate this wondrous feat (at least to me), I am announcing my first ever competition! I've been storing up book swag and loot for awhile now and have been waiting for a suitably grand occasion. Right now you are probably thinking, whatever the occasion, just get to the prizes, and I'm getting there...so prizes you asked? You probably guessed it by the lovely picture above, but the prize is a $25 gift card to Barnes & Noble! You know you want it! All those books you could get....Now onto "THE RULES."

The Rules:

1. Open to EVERYONE, just because you haven't been following me all along doesn't mean you don't matter.
2. Please make sure I have a way to contact you if your name is drawn, either your blogger profile or a link to your website/blog or you could even include your email address with your comment(s).
3. Contest ends Monday, August 31st at 11:59PM CST
4. How to enter:

Answer me this: In honor of the end of summer and the beginning of another school year...What is your favorite Summer Read? Doesn't have to have been read this summer, but what book evokes the true spirit of summer to you? Harry Potter perhaps? Charlotte's Web
by chance? A thriller verses a classic? A true beach read? I want to know!

5. And for those addicted to getting extra entries:
  • +1 for answering the question above
  • +2 for becoming a follower
  • +5 if you are already a follower (yes you lucky 5 people you!)
  • +10 for each time you advertise this contest - blog post, sidebar, twitter (please @MzLizard), etc. Also please leave a link!

Also, as extra special incentive...if, by some great stroke of luck I hit 50 followers, which really is beyond my wildest dreams, I will include something extra. I little bookaholic surprise if you will....Good luck and I can't wait to read you answers!

This is going to be fun! Please pay Miss Eliza a visit, and enter her competition!
Good Luck! :)

My Favorite Cover

This week my choice is:

Jenna's Cowboy by Sharon Gillenwater
(this is Book 1 in her new series, The Callahans of Texas)

Jenna Callahan has a young son and rewarding work on her father's ranch. She's content. But she never expected to see Nate Langley back in town--the first guy she noticed, the one her father sent away all those years ago. And she never thought the attraction they felt would be as strong as ever. Jenna's cowboy has some healing of his own to do, though, after two tours of duty in the armed forces. With the help of good friends, strong faith, and a loving family, he hopes to put the horrors of the past behind him--and become the man Jenna deserves. With an emphasis on simple acts of love, Jenna's Cowboy gives romance readers what they want most: a love story with a Texas touch.

Jenna held her breath as he climbed out of the pickup and slowly walked around the front of it. Wow . . . He wasn't the six foot tall, rangy cowboy she used to know. This man was all muscle. His snug, blue, short-sleeved T-shirt emphasized his physique. She had to force herself not to stare at his broad shoulders and thick, solid arms. He moved fine, so he must not have suffered any permanent injury to his leg. A pink scar on the back of his forearm stood out against his dark tan, but it didn't seem to bother him. He crossed his arms and leaned against the truck fender with a smile, his silver-gray eyes twinkling. Jenna's heart skipped a beat. How could his eyes have gotten even more beautiful? He scanned the jack waiting near the right rear of the pickup, the tire-iron still hanging on a lug-nut, and the spare tire lying on the ground. As he brushed a strand of light sandy brown hair off his forehead, his gaze flickered to the ice cream before meeting hers. "Refueling?" She laughed and stood, walking over to meet him. "I couldn't get the tire off, and the ice cream was melting. Didn't see any sense in wasting it." Setting the carton in the truck bed, she swallowed the sudden lump in her throat. "Welcome home." Something flashed in his eyes, then he lowered his arms and straightened, taking a step closer. "Don't I get a hug?" Was his voice a little thicker? Jenna hesitated for a second, then chided herself. This was Nate, her friend. And he was home safe and sound. Quick tears stung her eyes. Thank you, Lord. "You bet."

WOW! I. Can. Not. Wait. To. Read. This. Book!!!! It sounds SO GOOD!! It releases in January 2010. Be sure to watch for it!

(I got permission from Jen @ So Many Books...So Little Time to use her "Cover Attraction" idea.)

Which Jane Austen Heroine Are You?

I am Elizabeth Bennet!

Take the Quiz here!

This week Royal Reviews has dedicated an entire week to Mr. Darcy. I came across this quiz over at Seductive Musings.

Have you taken the quiz to find out "Which Jane Austen Heroine are you"? According to the quiz, I am Elizabeth Bennet. I'm not really a big Jane Austen fan, but I've seen a couple of the movies. The last one I saw was Becoming Jane...it was okay. I enjoy more contemporary romantic movies, books, etc.

If you're a Jane Austen fan...you should really find out which Heroine you are! Enjoy!

Teaser Tuesday ~ #1

This sounds like fun! I've seen it on quite a few blogs, but didn't decide to participate until I saw it again today @ Lori's Reading Corner (compliments of MizB @ Should Be Reading).

Here's what you're asked to do:
  1. Grab your current read.
  2. Let the book fall open to a random page.
  3. Share two teaser sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  4. Share the title of the book that the “teaser” comes from, so people can find the book if they like the teaser.
  5. And again remember – avoid spoilers.

Here's mine...

Red kissed her again just for saying she wanted him to.
Cassie wrapped her arms around his neck, then slid her hands to his face and lifted herself away from him. "If you wanted me to be sassy, you should have told me you'd do this." (I know that's 3 sentences, but it made more sense with the 3rd one added!)

This teaser comes from: Montana Rose by Mary Connealy.
So far it's a great book! What's your TEASER?

Hubby's Project ~ #1

We bought our first "real" house in October 2008 (we lived in a mobile home prior to purchasing this house), so we're still really excited to be here! My hubby, Allen, has always wanted his very own shop/workshop, but we've never had a nice enough, or big enough, yard for him to have one. Well, when we bought this house, there was a perfect spot in the backyard for him to build a shop! He was SO excited!

Here's our "real" house...

I thought it would be nice to share his progress here on my blog. To give you an idea of where the shop is going to be...it's pretty much where I was standing when I took the photo of the back of our house.

Here are some photos of his progress so far...

This is a pic of the footing on one side of the foundation.
He dug most of these by hand! That was some back-breaking work!

Here are the footings all the way around,
with the batter-boards up.

Here's the very first load of gravel! Woo-hoo!

Here Allen, and my cousin, Brian, are spreading
out the first of MANY loads of gravel.

They've still got a LONG way to go!! The gravel has to
come up to 4 inches from the top of the batter-boards.
Whew! I'm glad I wasn't recruited to help. :p

Bring on the concrete! Here's Allen dumping yet another
load out of the "Georgia" buggy. It took around 30 loads
to get it up to the top of the batter-boards.
Allen decided to use the buggy instead of having the
concrete truck come down our driveway,
and risk cracking it.

Here are the guys spreading it out,
before it gets too dry.

The finished concrete slab had to cure for a couple of
weeks before the framing could begin. Just this past
Saturday, Allen & Brian started framing the walls and
putting them up. They've already
put up one and are working on the second.

I fell asleep on the couch (wasn't feeling too good)
and totally missed the second wall going up!
Here are 3 walls already up...one more to go...

Allen's Dad, Bo, is helping him cut braces to go
on the walls that are already standing.

The fourth wall is now up, but it's already too dark
for me to take a photo of it. I'll try to keep updating
as the progress continues.

We can hardly wait to see it finished! This is so exciting! :)
Come back later to see more photos....

My Playlist...Song Lyric Poem

I just saw this post on my friend Renee's blog, Steeler Girl's Blog, and I had to join in! This is a LOT of fun! :p

My poem sounds like I'm leaving/left my hubby! Oh no! I don't really know what the birds have to do with anything though?? LOL Here it is...

Well, I guess it would be nice,
Now as the summer fades, I let you slip away.
Hey, once I was a funky singer, playin' in a Rock and Roll Band;
Wakin' up to find another day.

I got a pocket, gotta pocketful of sunshine ~
Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk;
It's been the longest winter without you.
You don't know how you met me?

If I could escape, I would, but first of all let me say...
Games, changes, and fears;
You have my heart.
If I was a rich girl...

Closed off from love, I didn't need the pain,
Back in black.
Well, I went down to the Grundy County Auction;
Where I come from isn't all that great.

I remember when, I remember...
Gettin' born in the state of Mississippi,
Where is the moment we needed the most
Three little birds, sat on my window...

ROTFLMAO!!!! :D

My Favorite Cover

Just this week I discovered a really cool meme at Jen's blog: So Many Books...So Little Time. She chooses her favorite cover for the week and includes a synopsis for the book. Isn't that great? I think it's a great way to share books with others! I'm going to start posting mine on Friday's, so be sure to come back next week. Enjoy!

This week I've chosen: How Sweet It Is by Alice J. Wisler.
(doesn't that cake look scrumptious!)

Deena Livingston leaves behind a broken romance and her chef job in Atlanta to spend time at her grandfather's cabin in the mountains of North Carolina. But her grandfather has an odd request: he wants Deena to teach cooking classes to the ragtag group of middle-schoolers who attend the local afterschool program, The Center. Reluctantly, Deena agrees, but how is she supposed to convince these kids that cooking at home is better than eating at McDonalds? And after all she went through in Atlanta, why is she attracted to Zack, the social worker at The Center? Can a Dr. Seuss-quoting plumber, a curly-haired basketball player, and a group of middle-schoolers change Deena's outlook on life?

Meet Deezel

Isn't he just too cute??? We got him last Tuesday, from the local pound. He was brought in with his 5 brothers and 2 sisters on August 1st. He was the last one left! Of course I couldn't just leave him there! The people who brought them in said that the mother is a Boxer, but they're not sure who/what the father is. I'm hoping he continues to look like a Boxer ~ that's what my hubby and I wanted. He was 9 weeks old when he came to the pound, so he's going on 12 weeks old. He has a vet appt. this Friday for his 2nd round of vaccines. He's probably not going to like me very much that day! Poor baby!

Here's a few more pix of him playing with his toys:

LOTS and LOTS of books!!!!

I decided to get up early this morning (6:00 a.m.!) to hit a few Yard Sales. I wanted to see if I could find some deals on books. Hmmmmm...look at the photos below and let me know how successful you think I was in my book search...

Here's all 3 boxes + some

50+ Love Inspired

Lots of miscellaneous authors

Christmas anthologies...I'm a sucker for these! LOL

20+ Children's books

20+ Christian Fiction...woo-hoo!

20+ Mystery/Thriller, Paranormal
& Romantic Suspense

My favorites are the Christian Fiction romance books. I'm not fond of the Mystery/Thriller, Paranormal & Romantic Suspense. Of course, I don't read the Children's books either! I mostly look for books to trade/sell online. If you're a member of any of the swap sites listed on my blog...be sure to keep an eye on my Inventory/Bookshelf (username: sugarandgrits)...I'll be adding most of these books in the next few weeks.

How many books do you think I bought? How much do you think I spent on them? Take a guess...leave me a comment...and I'll post the answers soon. Nothing like a little suspense to keep it interesting! LOL

REMINDER ~ Don't forget to make your list of books received this week so you'll be ready for your Mailbox Monday post. :)
